Roof Repair Warning Signs

Roof repair warning signs

“A missing shingle here and there doesn’t necessarily mean that I need repair work done on my roof, right?”

Perhaps…but why take a chance with what is probably the most expensive investment you’ll ever make, your house?

Sure, it’s possible for a perfectly good shingle to come loose and break away or be blown off your roof all together by strong wings but it’s also possible that a few missing shingles may be an indicator of a much larger problem.

Missing, cracked or curled shingles do not allow for proper rooftop water drainage and therefore, can eventually result in ceiling leaks inside your home. However, multiple damaged or missing shingles may also be an early indicator that your shingles have all reached the end of their useful life effectiveness.

Here are some other things to watch for.

If you have leakage in your attic after a wind-driven rain, in addition to potentially having inadequate shingle underlayment, you may have deteriorated flashing.

If attic leakage is present after a build-up of ice on your roof, you may have a problem with ice dams which could possibly be caused, at least in part, by insufficient insulation and a lack of adequate air circulation.

Blistering and/or peeling of interior and exterior paint may be a result of excessive temperature or high humidity due to poor attic ventilation.

Faulty shingle underlayment and inadequate ventilation can also contribute to stains on interior ceilings and walls or mold and mildew growth.

What about dirty-looking areas on a roof?

Those spots could be caused by a loss of granules due to the age of your shingles.
